I received a Kenwood KDC-MP435U hed unit, Metra install kit and wire harness no.BB-WHFD1 as a gift from my son. The factory unit is a single cd only unit with 4 speakers, radio code on door is 5.
When I removed the factory head I noticed the plugs on the Metra wire harness did not match. I went to Best Buy to get the wright wire harness (they will not take the old one back)they told me I need a $159.00 conversion box. If a don't use the conversion box they said the security system will not work and the air bags will go off as you are driving ???? (I find this hard to belive).
I called Metra and they told me to use wire harness no. 70-1771 and no convrsion box. The factory radio has 2 plugs, the 70-1771 wire harness only 1 plug. If I do not use the conversion box and install the new unit will everything still work ? Please help.
Thank you, Don

yea I have a 2000 F150 and I installed an after market radio myself...you just have to buy the wire harness for your year truck which you can find at any Auto zone or Advance Auto parts...usually runs around 4 bucks....no conversion box needed...Best buy probably just wants you to buy the over priced box so they can make some money
